8 - Three Times a Day
Daniel 6
8. Your Majesty, we request your signature on this law; sign it so
that it cannot be canceled or changed; it will be a 'law of the
Medes and Persians' that cannot be revoked."
9. So King Darius signed the law.
10. But though Daniel knew about it, he went home and knelt down
as usual in his upstairs bedroom, with its windows open toward Jerusalem,
and prayed three times a day, just as he always had, giving thanks
to his God.
11. Then the men thronged to Daniel's house and found him praying
there, asking favors of his God.
LB
These verses give us an idea of how Daniel prayed.
First, we know he prayed three times each day.
If Daniel had not had this as a pattern of his life, he may not have
survived in such a hostile work place. having cultivated the habit
of praying three times each day saved his sanity in a really
dreadful situation.
Maybe you don't pray three times each day, but do you have a regular
time and place for prayer like Daniel did?
Is your answer that you are too busy to have a consistent prayer time?
Daniel was a very busy man with a terribly demanding job - he was the
chief president of king Darius' empire! Are you as busy as that?
Next, Daniel prayed in two ways: he gave thanks to God and he asked
God to supply his needs and to give him favour.
Do you spend time thanking God, letting Him know what your needs are,
and seeking His favour upon your life?
Those are three basic forms of prayer we would all do well to major in.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for showing me today, through the life of Your
servant Daniel, how to pray in a difficult situation.
Help me to cultivate the habit of praying like this before the
difficult situation comes upon me, so that I will already be
prepared in prayer to handle whatever comes to test me.
Thank You for Your help in this area,
in Jesus' name,
Amen.
